😂😂 Somehow I ended up looking on this thread & lol.
Yea we don't play baseball anymore.I keep hearing we want to bring it back but no go so far.Hopefully one day.
We got a good soccer team!!!😁

We had good baseball teams in the 80's & 90's.What happen was in 1999 the all black school in Montezuma closed.And they came to MaCo.Slowly each yr all the white kids parents started sending there kids to Schley, Taylor, Southland & gradually most white families moved out also. all of this because of no jobs & poor leadership, education @ MaCo.and im sure there were other reasons u know what I'm talking about?
So we about 95% black students since the year 2002.most black kids are not interested in baseball.

Desegregation didn’t hit MaCo until 1999? Or did all the black community live in a central area that was served by that one school?

yes kinda to yr last question.,,I don't have all the answers, explained it the best I could, desegregation started @ Macon co high Rebels in the late 60s I think.the school went to Macon co bulldogs in late 70's I think.when I graduated in 1990 MaCo was about 60% white 40% black students.we had damn good sports programs black & white kids.i & we, they all cared & loved our teammates.no racism.just something changed in 1999 when DF Douglas closed in 1999 & our principal , superintendent retired in 2000 then MaCo became 60%black to 40%white kids.above is what happened to the best of my knowledge.

It was more of a service area issue. The county school was a good mix, the city school was all black. The combination of the two schools flipped the numbers and the white flight began. Now, with that said at that same time you had a newer generation that had more disposable income and grand parents to help with the cost of travel and tuition for private schools. It started mainly with Southland and Westfield. Then Schley got started and they have had a few kids travel over but most have moved to Schley at this point. Probably some of last great teams in baseball was what was that around 94-95???

Thanks for helping to explain.yes the last great teams were 93-95.we usually always were competitive.I played one year 1989 & rode the bench & got one at bat the whole yr & struck out😂 I was better at basketball & football.after talking to a few folks I would say MaCo is now 90% black students.10% hispanic & white.i also heard there will be more hispanic & white students in the near future.talk to yr friend Barker & he can tell u everything about MaCo baseball.A three yr starter I think & a damn good short stop.

damn that sucks....it sucks that school choice and other things like that slowly changed MaCo....also good to hear that back in 80s and 90s though the differences there was no racism and just brotherly bonds.....sports tend to do that...I can for sure say thats how it was with us.......cant say gordon lee can say similar...

But I will say Wilcox is going to be a tough out for anyone ... They should have a good shot at the title this year and next.. Not sure after that.. But if they are going to ever win it this is the time.

won’t toot my horn….a lot of starters left with the team last year 6-7 kids…..just rely on Boris Gibson a Tennessee commit and Jackson Owens…..and Jordan Stephen…..if those kids can carry the load and with our great coaching…..we could make some noise
