Its finally time to see some loaded teams battle it out in Macon! We now know which teams will be competing and trying to give Commerce some competition. Here they are for the ones who may not know: Commerce, Trion, Mt. Pisgah, Holy Innocents, Mt. Desales, Pacelli, Landmark Christian, Irwin, ELCA, Athens Christian, Turner Co. and Mt. Zion. I have Commerce vs Holy Innocents and Trion vs Mount Pisgah in the Semi's. Then Commerce vs Trion again in the finals. I don't think anyone is thinking much of Trion giving Commerce a battle after Commerce dominated them last year. I think the tournament will be dominated by Commerce, Trion and Pisgah. The scores will probably not be close at all when they see any other team. Trion / Pisgah may turn into a good one as the final also may surprisingly be quite a battle. As far as a sleeper I would have to guess it would be Holy Innocents. Looking forward to an injury free and exciting tournament!

Michael Cox of HI had a standout season in football this year, and I expect him to be dominant in the duals this weekend. Guessing he will be 220, maybe 195? I'm not sure who else HI has on the roster, but they always make it a challenge.
Was hoping to attend the Area 6 Duals at Commerce, but had to go to Augusta Saturday at the last minute. Looking thru the pics of the Commerce team from Saturday, I honestly dont recognize half of them! This coming from the guy that took the team's photos and made their banner last year, and I was lost! LOL. Looks like we have a lot of guys getting pulled out of the halls to wrestle. I know one Senior that hadn't been on the mat since 8th grade is on the team, and he actually looked good! Have to hand it to Coach Love and the others, they know how to get their team ready!

Got to see Cox at Prep Slam. Great football player, but he looked so out of shape. Don't see anyone in Class A that will really push him unless Lundy comes down from HWY. Would love to see Burns get pushed up to 220 to wrestle him. Somebody would for sure take flight with those two man!! Guys getting pulled out of the halls, funny, you mean "brought in" to fill the halls/weight classes. Can't wait to see Commerce and Trion go at it in the finals. I feel Trion will get beat up again. Commerce will bonus alot more matches then Trion wins.

Olddog we (Trion) smasher holy innocents earlier In the year at a duals meet. We have a really solid squat up and down. Minus one Ethan Madaris broke his leg during a match a few weeks ago but we have a guy just as good to fill the spot just not as much experience. Should be a great weekend if wrestling. Trion and Commerce will battle it out in the finals again I’m sure. Goodluck and safe travels to everyone. My son will be there wrestling this weekend!

Yeah, I guess Trion is becoming the new Commerce. Nice move-in named B James. Doesn't have the experience but has great talent. But totally agree with Trion vs Commerce in the finals. Trion did beat Holy Innocents pretty bad earlier in the season, but please remember 4-5 of the kids of HI were still winning football games!

I have no dog in the fight and I have only seen Trions 9th and 10th graders wrestle in person when they were 7th and 8th graders. I did see Commerce wrestle 2 different times this year and I am predicting Trion winning in a VERY close final dual. Commerce is not as strong as in the past in my opinion. In no way is that a jab at Commerce, I know most of the kids on the team and Coach Love, and they are all great kids and a great coach and they have a very solid, tough wrestling team.
Wrestling2018, what school are you affiliated with?? You seem to have an ax to grind with these small city schools, who without kids choosing to attend the school who may not live in the city limits, probably wouldn’t have enough kids to field 1/2 of a squad. Have you been to Commerce?? It is a tiny city that is on the edge of Jackson County, if I’m not mistaken, part of the city limits are in Banks County and about 1-2 miles from the Madison County line. So of course some kids from surrounding areas CHOOSE to attend a school that is 8-10 miles closer than their County school. Just my opinion

No "ax to grind", I just think its funny how its always a witch hunt for private schools when they bring kids in, but city schools get what I call "move-ins" and some might say surrounding areas move-ins and no one says anything. Its just funny in wrestling how most your city schools (commerce, Jefferson, Social Circle, Buford, Trion, and others) always perform very good at the state level then have new faces on the mat come the following year. For this weekend I do believe it will be an interesting match up between Commerce and Trion, but I think Commerce still wins. Commerce will win 4 of the 5 matches up top with a few winning by bonus points. Plus, Legg and Flint, so that's 6 matches with a handful of bonus points. Pretty sure they can find another win somewhere. If not dont see Trion getting a lot of bonus points when winning. Commerce will for sure be tested.

I hope that you are correct. I would like nothing more than to see Commerce win their 7th (I think) Dual State title. Good luck to all the wrestlers and safe travels. I personally can’t wait to see the finals in 1A, 3A, 5A and 6A. Those should be very exciting to watch.
As for “move ins” as you refer to them. In my opinion, EVERY school In the entire state gets “move ins”. Especially those schools with something to offer whether it’s academic or athletic. If your school never gets any “move ins”, either you are in a bad area that no one wants to live in or your school has nothing to offer students that wish to seek out more opportunities academically or athletically. Again, these are my opinions. Wrestling 2018, what school are you affiliated with??

Totally agree with you about "move-ins". Sorry had ties with Darlington and the refs while back ago. Now just a fan.

Based on the data published by GHSA showing "out of district" kids (aka "move-ins") during the recent reclassification, it seems nearly EVERY school has them. It just so happens that ones that are successful in sports are associated with "move ins" more than those less than successful schools with the same number or more "move ins". In today's society, the blame for success has to be put somewhere I guess, rather than placing blame on being unsuccessful.
Anywho, I looked at some of the names on the Commerce team and some of those new faces must be younger brothers of wrestlers @ Commerce. I'm out of touch with this years Freshmen on down since my baby graduated. Feels weird after all those years knowing who these kids are on the field or mats, but now I'm asking "who???"!
This years varsity team has many of the same guys that were varsity the last couple of years. With that said, I feel Commerce should win duals this weekend, but it will most likely be closer than years past.

Our “move in” are still county residents, Trion is an extremely small town, wouldn’t really even say city. Most of the school ( probably 85%) Just guessing, consists of alumni's kids, and county residents still and most could throw a rock and hit the city limit sign. Move ins yes we do have them and people come here because of the education Trion offers. We have had enough wrestlers this year to put 2 teams in each dual meet we went to and placing 1-2, but b team doesn’t count they just say exhibition. Middle school won then NGAC for the 3rd year in a row so we have plenty of great wrestlers at all ages. My son is down there the this weekend so show him some hospitality lol.

Hmmm, Trion put up a great score against Landmark! If both Trion and Commerce make it to the finals, it should be a great matchup! Things are about to get really interesting!

Both Commerce and Trion looked really good. I think Landmark was a much tougher opponent than Irwin in my opinion. I think 1A , 2A and 5A are gonna be the most exciting finals.
Does anyone know why Lundy isn’t wrestling for Irwin?? I was looking forward to seeing him on the mat.

My son called and said they won 66-6 and I was like WOW!!! Everyone said pisgah would be a tough one so I guess we will see tomorrow. Haven’t seen or heard anything about them so I honestly don’t know but Trion is definitely going to be tough over the next 4-6 years. We had over 40 kids on the HS team all together and adding probably another 5-10 next year as freshman. Lincoln Maddox younger brother will be coming up and he’s as good or better than Lincoln and a few others that will be studs later on. My son is a sophmore this year so I have a couple more years left sadly.
