A:
Griffin might be the defending champion, but it looks to be a wide open race. GA Christian and even Fullington made strides late season, JH is usually competitive and Rock Springs was one of the better 8 man programs in the GICAA last year. Not sure of any meaningful transfers in/out that will effect these programs fates...but unlike last year it looks like anything might be possible. Well, except for Central winning it all....they need a lot of work after last years debacle. So, no idea who wins this....
AA:
I have to think CFCA has to be the favorite here going in...barring them losing players to transfers. Lafayette moves up from A (after 2 good seasons) and their defense will be solid, but there are some questions offensively. Flint River is coming over from GISA and could be better than expected.
AAA:
Easy....Community is the odds-on favorite until someone in the GICAA beats them.

Flint River will be good.
Ga Christian will need to survive the valwood game and stat healthy.
Community will win another title.
Sherwood may not be back for basketball after going intramural in fall sports

Community will do good to win a single game this year, they are down to only 16-17 players and all their stud skill players transferred to public schools. Also they don't even have a middle school program to help feed the varsity year to year. quite possible Community will be 8 man next year, if they survive at all

Did the same guy that killed the old vent kill community's middle school program?
Hopefully not but that is a mighty big drop off. My money is still on community though

My money is still on community though I think the main reasons for the drop is, enrollment, covid, and staff change at the AD position, and that this year they were not able to pull from the public schools like they have in the past, in fact they had several key players go back to public school this year.

Community’s problem starts at the top with the school administration. Students that have been attending the school since kindergarten are leaving for other private schools. The public school athletes that they recruited didn’t stay because they hated the school. Hiring the former football coach as the athletics director was a huge mistake. Varsity football is failing due to athletes moving on to other programs but he will personally kill all of the rest of their sports programs. My son played middle school football their last season. They had a brand new coaching staff who were serious about growing the program into a feeder. The head coach left after one season and went to Peachtree Academy and took his assistant coaches with him. CCS didn’t even try to field a middle school team this year. They blamed COVID but the reality is that nobody wanted the job. We’ve since pulled our child as well.

Middle School programs in GICAA had been on the decline (in terms of teams fielded) for a few years now. Community not trying to field a team (who has been a historic power in MS as well) and Lafayette trying and not being able to get the #’s to make it work (despite being nearly always a playoff team or championship contender) might be signs that a functional MS league is over for the GICAA.
I hope I am alarmist about this, but lack of a MS program does have consequences for Varsity. Without a middle school program pipelining into Varisty LCS also may well have to drop to 8 man next year. If they can’t revive it next year it could call into question the long term viability of any sort of varsity program.

The Man who Coached middle school at Community last year would not have been ask back this year regardless if they had a team or not.

If gapps loses more 11 man teams, the merger of some sports becomes more relevant. Sherwood may cancel all sports and go intramural this school term. That will leave Grace in Bainbridge on an island surrounded by gisa schools.
Ga Christian and highland are both close to other gapps to stay

Middle school football took a hit when the Concussion stuff came front and center. Even in the recreation league tackle football numbers are way down and more parents are opting for flag football instead. I don't know of any GAPPS schools now that carry the old Jr Pro league (3-5 grade). In Henry county their rec league football numbers between 4 parks use to be close to 2000 kids at one time but now I doubt they have 500 total
