Mary Persons should have a quarterback controversy. The starter is not the best quarterback on the team. The starter, who is a tenth grader, is at best average. Nothing against him, but his parents held him back in middle school to "help" him. He is starting because his father is President of the Mary Persons Touchdown Club and his uncle is Superintendent of the Monroe County School system.
The MP offensive coordinator has already been fired from his current position once because of incompetence. MP has a long history of playing favorites on the football team. One head coach has been fired because of these practices. Favoritism has cost MP many wins and now it is back.
Play the kids who are the best players and work the hardest and MP will be fine.

So your kid must be #2 qb

Sorry to disappoint, but my children have LONG since graduated from MP.
However, my comments came to pass last night. MP #1 quarterback was pretty much as bad as advertised. Multiple fumbles, pix six, noodle arm, and bad decision after bad decision. #2 QB that was mentioned above is a LINEBACKER. How could the coaching staff put a kid in that position. The offensive coordinator should have been fired before he got to the locker room door after the game. However, the buck stops with the head coach and he owns a great deal of the blame. Newnan had a fair team but not a really good team. They had a TON of penalty yards and MP could not take advantage.
It was a poor a performance by an MP team in the last 30 years (oh yeah MP goes to Peach next Friday and what happened last night will not even compare to what is going to happen next Friday night)!

Well everyone has an opinion, but I believe #18 is the best right now and most definitely has the most potential. Hurt feelings and politics are keeping him from getting playing time and an honest shot. There may be another QB who is not even getting a look (a running QB). This is basically all on the (already fired once from the MP OC position) offensive coordinator.

Did you come to that opinion by watching on Friday's or coming to workouts and practices this summer and fall? You can't honestly believe that the very successful head coach is willing to sacrifice the team for hurt feelings? It is my understanding that they are still in somewhat of rebuilding mode with very few upperclassmen. But hey, to each his own!!!

As to the players I will only address the last couple of years. First I have seen the players on Friday nights but also Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. I have not watched every practice but have seen quite a few practices. I have also seen small groups of players "practice" on their own on summer mornings. Honestly I have not seen any of the in door workouts and if you have you are a coach and should be ashamed. So I do believe that I have seen enough to make a reasonable judgement.
As to the 'successful' coach, HBN has been very successful. An honest look does show he has had a huge amount of talent during his coaching stint. It can be argued that CBN has had more talent at MP since the 1980's. Right now he doesn't have that talent and needs to rely on his and his coaching staff's coaching abilities. They are now showing a lack of coaching ability.
Still the largest factor that is being overlooked is the pressure a system school superintendent along with his prominent family can put on a high school football program whether it is direct or indirect. That leads to certain players being allowed to learn virtually while everyone else has to come to school. The OC has terribly under performed in his this second try at this job. The offense did score a ton on a team with 22 players but have been inept versus two good teams.
All anyone can ask for is that all the players get a fair shake and honest try at playing.

Some thoughts from the MP/Pike game both from in-person attendance first half and NFHS network second half.
1. MP is really good against teams with less than 40 players (Pike dressed out 35).
2. MP QB is still bad and has not improved. OB missed two wide open touchdown passes and had one of those misses intercepted. QB is slow with a weak inaccurate arm. I am hearing from multiple coaches (off the record) that QB has met his max potential and will not improve much in the future. The driving factor in his playing time is coaching staff is afraid of benching superintendent’s nephew and booster club president’s son. I am also hearing there is dissension on team with offensive coordinator (who has already been fired once from this position-previous game had players calling for his removal during game to fans in stands).
3. #4 Hughley is our best player and should get 30 touches if he can physically stand it.
4. Game announcers on NFHS network must be MP employees and have been instructed to say nothing anywhere near critical of team or coaches. One of best examples of “Homers” ever seen.
5. We may have seen MP’s final win. Upson-Lee is drooling waiting on us. Jackson is pretty good and also can’t wait for MP to show up. We have a chance of beating Americus the last game. MP pretty much needs to win out to have a shot at the playoffs (this statement reminds me of the Indianapolis coach yelling, Playoffs???).
