I have a feeling, most of the people of Israel are asking the same thing or soon will be. Some things to think about:
(1) When you put corrupt, MAGA like leadership in charge, then you get nasty incompetence. That's a fact in this case. How on earth could their government be surrpised and even more then that, didn't even have much of a military presense in the area. Wow, how could both have happened?
(2) You can't negotiate or trust terrorists. That's easy enough to understand and that's what they say all the time. But you see, that presents a more puzzeling question. You knew the terrrorists were there and in charge since 2007.........RIGHT NEXT DOOR in an area that Israel is responsible for.
Conclusion: The actual policy of Israel has been that if the country built a wall (ah la MAGA style) and segregate their population from the world (can't have a globalist society), then that would mean peace. FALSE
Have a feeling the people of Israel are about to figure out they were sold a bill of goods that their policy was going to work.

So what to do now. If you listen to any government official of Israel. They say they are going to do two things. (1) crush Hamas and (2) reestablish deterrance.
I suppose they really mean, that they can only crush this generation of terrorists by crushing Hamas. Pretty sure they have been here many times before.
Reestablish deterrence? Is there any such thing with terrorists? Didn't know that.

Which brings up the next question: isn't the best way to crush terrorists is just occupy their center of gravity the old fashion way? Hey, deterrence wouldn't be needed then.
I have been racking my mind during the first 200 years of America's history, if we have ever left an area devoid of federal government control. The closest I could come up with was the Civil War, and we see the Federal Government moved heaven and earth to nip that one in the bud.
I suppose, we could one day just move out of Delaware and let the terrorists have it. Pretty similar as to location and location matters. Its not like Delaware is on the other side of the worlld. Delaware is right next door to our Capital and NY similar to Gaza's location. Wow.......what a policy decision?

So why does Israel insist that to occupy Gaza is a bad idea?
I suppose the answer is that their de facto policy is to have a permanent state of war is all I can figure.

Yes, Biden is wrong that for Israel to reoccupy Gaza is a bad idea. Pretty sure he wouldn't have said it if he didn't already know that Israel wasn't going to do it anyway. He's just giving them cover for more bad policy.

And now this brings up Iran. Gee, Iran couldn't touch Israel by proxy if Israel actually crushed the terrorists.
And before you really can discuss crushing the terrorists, we might want to consider what is the fuel that the terrorists recruit by? Well, Hamas is in competition with the PLO. Hamas can always point to what the PLO did by recoganizing Israel's right to exist and what that got the PLO?
