Kind of funny that first game of the season we beat Bowdon by 1 point only to lose by 1 point last game of the season in the Championship. Not going to lie that hurt last night and will probably wait till early spring to watch the GPTV recording all the way through. Hats off to Bowdon for a great season. It meant a lot them carrying their #52 Jersey on the field also & had several Bowdon fans give their condolences in the Benz last night. It was a great game and great atmosphere but wish they would have it in high school stadium. Members of our Band and our regular ball boys (my son included) could not go out on the field that has traveled with this team all season. I do not like some of the rules of the Benz in the championship and honestly I would of rather traveled to Bowdon vs Atlanta for this one but we are country folks and not city folks. Now we look to the 2024-2025 school year, Our Jr.s have tasted the hunger and want it all, Manchester only loses a hand full of players due to graduation so on to game one in the spring game or pre season whom ever it is.

Well said……….. great game played by both teams……….I hated to see a penalty be a factor in the game especially when I saw the same infraction made on about every pat by both teams……….

Tough way to lose, would rather get beat by 14 than an EP. They must have cut back on sideline passes, didn't see the crowded sidelines like we had in the Dome.

What I witnessed last night was a Manchester team that initially had a bad case of "domeitis," and the wheels could have easily fallen off. But instead, they manned up and fought their way back. Helluva statement as to their character! Congrats on a great year.

Ill say that manchester team was better than i gave them credit for. After Bowdon's first drive, which was a thing of beauty, I thought it was going to be a long night for the propane devils but they fought back and made the beelzebubs dig in and earn it.

You are right OHL. That’s what we were coached to do on extra points when I played. Block down at the feet to keep their hands down. I was surprised that it got called last night. Definitely a hard way to end the season.

Next year, region 7 should be pretty competitive with Bowdon, Manchester, and Trion fighting it out for playoff positions. Who knows, Greenville and Mt. Zion could bring decent teams as well.

Good point, don’t have to worry about Manchester, no one transfers here.

Greenville was a straight up powerhouse in the 1980s. I wasn't born yet, but Clinch played them in the 1980s state championship game. Coach Dickerson was a Sophomore on the team and I remember him telling me and his nephew about the game. This was after we choked away a 23-0 lead to Dooly in the first round. A game neither of us played in, haha. Said we were up 10-6 in the 4th and the fans were doing the "We're number 1" thing. Yeah, Greenville threw a hail nary and won the game.

Here's the writeup that the GHSF Daily did on that game (ranked #12 Finals game all-time): Line: Greenville -10 (83% chance of winning). Call it the “Hail Mary” game. “With no timeouts, we just had to throw it up and pray,” Greenville’s Dwight Hochstetler said. What led up to the greatest ending in state finals history made the moment only more improbable. Clinch County took a 10-0 lead on a field goal with 10:43 left. Only two teams had come back from 10-point deficits in the fourth quarter to win state championships (1949 Decatur, 1952 Calhoun), and neither of those trailed by so much inside of three minutes to go. Greenville finally hit paydirt on Kenneth Bolton’s 5-yard TD pass to Darryl Ogletree with 2:15 remaining to make it 10-6. Greenville got the ball back at its 17 with 1:24 left but had no timeouts. Ogletree – who rushed for 165 yards in the game, 2,585 on the season – threw a halfback pass to tight end Melvin Robertson for 36 yards to Clinch County’s 42. With the clock rolling under 20 seconds, Greenville rushed to the line and tried the play again, this time with Robertson in the end zone. According to the AJC, two Clinch County defenders tipped the ball, but Robertson caught it on his back for the score with 10 seconds left. It would be hard to argue against that being the greatest single play in state finals history. Greenville, in its fourth varsity season, had its first state title.

I think Greenville won another one not long after that. Think maybe 1984? Ot that may have been Palmetto. That's another school that was good back then. We (Pike) play some of the feeder teams from that area now too.

Region 7 is going to be very competitive. I think Trion will come in and compete very well. I know this Trion, Manchester, and Bowdon are a threesome I’m putting against any other region. 3 of the winningest schools in the classification and all three got it going on right now.

I agree, several regions should have some strong teams, but it beats you up during the region games.
