nothing like a WW transfer to lead you to the promised land First of all go ahead and make fun of this being my first post to this group! I have been watching these threads for years. I have never said anything. Until now! Fan81 it seems to me that you always have something to say about any athletic kid leaving WW,No matter what the reason. You make it sound like they have lessened themselves by leaving or taken the easy way out. They go and succeed in athletics at another school and make that team better and you are going to say it is only because they came from WW! That my friend is far from the truth! For instance like in your last post about Pollock. She is the super star Tennis player she is because of the work she put in away from school! It had 0 to do with WW. Also a few years back you had a lot to say about the baseball players that transferred from WW to other schools. You said they took the easy route. That's funny! You said if they would have stayed at WW they would have won state 3 years in a row. You were correct about that. But those boys chose to up their game and better themselves because they saw the light! They went to way better and bigger programs where they had to work their tails off year round to earn a starting spot and they all succeeded. That also was from the work they put in away from school it had nothing to do with any WW program. Also WW basketball was a top notch program only because of Coach Smith! When she left the next coach just road her coat tales until what she built ran out then he left! So my point is just because a kid might have graced the halls of WW at some point and played sports at WW doesn't mean that it's the reason they succeed elsewhere! It's far from it!

Where to begin?
Why kids leave WW?
1. They want to get noticed in a bigger setting
2. They do not want to play the position where they are needed but where they want play.
3. Lack of playing time or too much playing time.
4. Expectations: ie carrying the load or having to bear the burden of being the star.
5. Not getting a roster spot.
6. Baconton or Pelham are free
7. Boyfriend or Girlfriend goes to another school
8. Dont like a particular coach
Stay or go, Buck also knows what could have been or put in a trophy case. It aint easy having to keep up the standards set by WW Administration. History has shown that some kids leave at mighty peculiar times.

thanks for ur opinion 'wethepeople' & welcome to the vent. i do have something to say when athletes leave ww, its my school and while the grass they say is always greener - except for when a family leaves/moves out of mitchell co or if they cannot afford the tuition or if they cannot succeed in the classroom - i see NO reason to leave the best education in the county. as for leaving to better themselves, to each there own. i remain unconvinced that it helped them achieve a better shot at college sports vs staying at ww where they entered in most cases as an elem student and could have achieved similar or the same collegiate opportunities. as for coach smith, u wont get any push back from me or any knowledgeable supporter/fan of ww sports - she and coach martin have had the single most positive effect on ww basketball. as for sga and the baby blue - if they fit in at sga they are not worthy of the orange & white.

Where to begin? Why kids leave WW? 3. Lack of playing time or too much playing time. Most of those are pretty commom reasons no matter the school, however, did someone actually leave WW in the past because they were getting too much playing time? That has to be the first time I've ever heard of that.

too much playing time.
At WW, kids know who has to step up the next year and play both ways or carrying the team as far as they can. some kids like to play some but not be a focus of the team. If kid X knows he has to do it, wouldn't it be easier to transfer to pelham and be a third stringer that a first stringer that everyone will be looking for production from on game night.

some kids cannot handle the weight of expectation - easier to hide behind someone else and play when the game has been decided.

Buck You seem to be the guy that runs this forum and I think you do a good job. You are fair and balanced!
No kid has ever left because of too much playing time.
No kid has ever left for not getting a roster spot because WW does not cut.

You disagree with my comment and I most definitely disagree with yours. Your comment "If they fit in at SGA they are not worthy of the orange and white" That's exactly what I was talking about earlier! These are kids that you make these comments about! This Holier than Thou attitude is one of the things that is wrong with WW.

this vent is about talking about the sports that these kids play. i guess we could talk about uga or the falcons on here but i bet there are other forums for that. i post my opinion, if it causes your hackles to raise, so be it. WW has rivals, sga is an old one. so was ravenwood, the most hated for us old timers but not the hate that is so prevalent in today's society but the kind that makes us want to win every time we play them and for them to lose every time they played anybody - period. sga holds that honor now.
